[INTERVIEW][TRANS] B.A.P for Hong Hong's YES! Magazine [March 2013]

In less than one year from debut, the explosive “alien” rookie group B.A.P have shown excellent results. Firstly, securing a spot on the Billboard World Top 10 albums, and then also conquering spots on several countries’ Itunes Hip-Hop charts. Secondly, they have also swept through the charts in countries such as Germany, Malaysia and Taiwan. B.A.P was also awarded the rookie award from the 2012 Melon Music Awards. Other than that, they took home the rookie award from Germany and Europe’s Kpop Awards 2012 and also MTV-K’s Best Rookie Award. In February, B.A.P released their second mini album, “One Shot” and also blazed through their first solo concert, B.A.P live on Earth, in Seoul. With rising popularity and the results to prove their hard work, we can only say that with B.A.P’s one shot straight to your heart, how many fangirls could they mesmerize and rise to the top of the Kpop industry.

B.A.P, the six membered group, who is inclusive of Yongguk, Himchan, Daehyun, Youngjae, Jongup and Zelo, has been awarded 13 rookie awards in the short span of 1 year and 1 month since their debut. They have also successfully wrapped up both nights of their first solo concert, “B.A.P live on Earth” which throughly showcased their ability as a prominent rookie. This is the interview at the press conference.
Q1 : What are the main features of this solo concert?
YG : The concept of our solo concert is 6 teenage aliens who invaded Earth to sing for the humans. At the concert, we have a setlist of 25 songs. As a rookie group, we have invited some special guests and performed all of our songs by ourselves to showcase our abilities.
! ; Due to being injured, Himchan felt upset and disappointed that he couldn’t participate in the whole concert.
Q2 : How do you feel to be able to hold B.A.P’s solo concert on exactly 394 days after your debut?
YJ : We feel very honoured to be able to be have received more love than other rookies who debuted at the same time. For this opportunity to showcase ourselves, we have practised for a long time and we are grateful.
! ; After Youngjae heard that the questions about promoting in China, he kept saying thank you in Chinese, and that made the reporters so happy.
Being unique
Q3 : Why do you think B.A.P is able to receive so much love from the fans?
YG : We think that it is because of our unique style of music that we make which attracts more and more fans. We feel that the music does not have to appeal to the masses. Our songs attract more international fans because it is a new and fresh type of music style. Because of our fans, we are also given the courage to try more diverse styles of creating music.
Q4 : Releasing 6 albums in the past year, what was the toughest part?
DH : Rather than tough, we wanted more time because we felt that with more time we could show a more perfect side of ourselves to everyone and we felt sorry because we couldn’t do that. From now on, we will work harder to bring better performances to our babyz.
Himchan’s injury
Q5 : How is it going with Himchan’s inury? What about the concert?
HC : It is healing very quickly but I would have to rest for 3 months. It’s a shame that I couldn’t participate in all the performances, but however I will participate in the ballad songs that do not require me to dance or exert my arm. To an audience, this show will have alot of main points, so everyone enjoy this concert like a movie. Because of the solo concert, the members have put in alot of effort and hard work into this, so for moral support I will be supporting them from backstage.
! ; As the leader, Yongguk has said that he wants to use the Seoul concert as a start point and jumpstart a world tour.
Q6 : What are B.A.P’s plans for 2013 after the concert?
YG : We hope that this year, our music will become more solid and we are able to present a more mature image to our babyz. We want international fans to know we go by the name of B.A.P so we want to hold a world tour.
Q7 : B.A.P is immensely popular in China, are there any plans to promote in China this year?
YG : The plan now is that we are preparing to invade China and we hope to meet our Chinese babyz soon.

Shooting the bullets of love
To be able to hold their solo concert, B.A.P is extremely delighted and excited to share their first concert experience with their babys. This concert has attracted a crowd of 4000 babys as the audience. The professional as always B.A.P started the concert on the dot at 8PM with their fierce debut track, “Warrior”. Decked in full white, the six boys appeared on stage in a cloud of smoke. With a single “Warrior is back!”, the boys got babys on their feet and waving their matoki lightsticks vigorously to the song and welcoming B.A.P on stage.
Even though Youngjae went slightly off pitch, the six boys held down the fort with a strong performance that didn’t let babys down. Their performance was daresay a hundred times better than normal performances on music shows. Every dance step was precise and to the point of no mistakes were made, driving all already hyper babys insane. After “Warrior”, B.A.P moved on to tracks like “What The Hell”, “No Mercy”, “Coma”, “Crash” and 20 other tracks off their albums. Besides showing their fierce side during performances, they also displayed their cute and charismatic sides. When they performed their highlight track, “One Shot”, they showed dance steps that look like they were shooting love bullets into the sea of babys. Wah!

B.A.P have many tricks up their sleeves when it comes to mesmerizing their babys. In their solo stage, the vocal line, Daehyun and Youngjae sang Jessie J’s “Price Tag” as a duo. The maknae line, Jongup and Zelo, showed off their dance techniques to the songs “Teach Me” and “Jump”. Yongguk kept his promise and ripped his shirt when he performed “Sacramental Confession”, causing the 4000 babys to go crazy. When it was “Goodbye”, all the babys waved their lightsticks more and sang along with the six boys, making it a touching scene. B.A.P who showed their vocals, dance and also abs also introduced themselves on stage. Yongguk did “bunny aegyo” to bring the audience to another high. When Youngjae introduced himself, the audience shouted, “Strip! Strip! Strip!” but he refused and promised, “I will show my abs at the next concert after training my muscles.” For the entire 2 hours of the concert, B.A.P packed tracks ranging from Hip-Hop to Rap into the setlist, driving their female fans insanely crazy and even causing fanboys to shout loudly.



Billboard results
After getting ideal response about their first solo concert, B.A.P who released their second mini album, “One Shot” in February is also receiving praises. In the Billboard Worldwide album charts, B.A.P’s second mini album “One Shot” has made its way up the charts. Even though B.A.P is more recognisable in terms of other rookies who debuted in the same year, TS entertainment has also revealed that they are both shocked and honoured at the album being able to chart on the Billboards. For this year, there has already been four kpop groups being able to appear on the Billboards. They are Girls Generation, Super Junior M, Super Junior and also CN Blue. For B.A.P who are able to be on the Billboards, has once again proven that the six talented boys have endless potential and are even catching up to their seniors in the industry!
What is the secret to B.A.P being able to capture the hearts of international fans? Experts say (T/N: lolwtf) : kpop groups have been expanding out into different parts of the world and to be able to attract foreign fans, the ever changing music style is a must. To stand out against other groups who are also in the Hallyu wave, B.A.P have a deadly combination of Hip-Hop and Rap that contributes to the factor of their popularity and also the unique genre and types of music styles they are willing to try. This will definitely bring them to the top.

“One Shot” straight to babys’ heart
With their new album which was on Billboard, B.A.P can now be even more recognised. The album has a collection of fierce and powerful songs with a mature sound, proving to everyone the exoplosive power of B.A.P. The “One Shot” album, other than the title track, “One Shot”, also contains “Rain Sound” which was released in January and 3 other tracks. The producer who produced “Warrior” and “Power” is back this time to collaborate with B.A.P to bring “One Shot”. The new song encompasses B.A.P’s fierce image from debut and also a mature, realistic and serious tinge to the track. If you liked “Warrior”, this song will definitely once again attract you with its magnificence. Compared to “Hajima” and “Crash” which went on a different direction, this is a different kind of charm that will send everyone into a frenzy.
Also, the mv was shot in more than 10 destinations in not only Korea but also Phillipines with a 10 million KRW budget and more than 100 hours worth of filming. The 7 minute long MV has successfully grabbed everyone’s attention. B.A.P, who tranformed into manly killers, with different types of dance steps including the zombie dance and hip thrust dance steps have throughly driven fans insane.
