Less than a year since their Live on Earth Pacific Tour and their MTV K showcase in Times Square, six-member boy band B.A.P returned to the Big Apple last weekend to kick off the U.S. leg of their Live on Earth 2014 Continent Tour. On April 13, Best Buy Theater was packed with thousands of devoted NYC Babyz (some of whom camped out in tents the night before) for the boys’ sold-out NYC tour stop. To thank U.S. fans for their undying and ever-growing support, B.A.P worked hard to make sure Sunday night would be a night to remember. And boy, did they deliver.

The sound of bullets being fired marked the start of the show, and once Bang Yongguk, Himchan, Daehyun, Youngjae, Jongup, and Zelo took their positions on stage, it became very clear that the audience had no intention of settling down until the night was over.
B.A.P’s Live on Earth 2014 immediately set itself apart from other K-Pop concerts with its focus on delivering a special message — how to make the world a better place. Going along with their “Earth Needs…” theme, the concert was divided into six parts: justice, love, passion, emotion, happiness, and you. VCR skits explaining each keyword were played on the big screen onstage each time the boys headed backstage for an outfit change, and introduced each new set of songs.
First up was JUSTICE, and in typical B.A.P fashion, the members brought out their charismatic stage presence to relay the social issues mentioned in “One Shot,” “Badman,” and “Power.” Leader Yongguk even made it a point to introduce “Power” with a dramatic, influential quote: “There’s no love, no respect, no justice. Money, greed, pride always come first, and now it’s time to make things right.”
However, the boys quickly lightened up the mood with a short talk break before “Coffee Shop.” A coffee cart with a “Starbabys” logo (parodying Starbucks) rolled out on stage, and Daehyun asked, “Who’s thirsty?” while Jongup sang “Do you wanna drink a coffee?” to the tune of “Do You Wanna Build a Snowman?” from Disney film Frozen. Upon hearing this, a wave of fans pushed to get to the front, and the craziness only intensified as B.A.P personally took orders and handed out drinks from Starbucks.

The boys took notice of the commotion happening in front of them and took a brief moment to make sure their beloved Babyz were okay. Daehyun politely asked the crowd to “step back a bit, please” and to “calm down” while Youngjae and Himchan led some breathing exercises. But the excitement of the audience refused to die down — especially when “Body & Soul” began blaring from the speakers.

Because most of the concert’s performances came from their first full-length album, First Sensibility, it seemed that B.A.P was focused on showcasing a more mature look and feel. And let us tell you, the sensual track stood as a testament to all of the members’ successful transformations from boys to men. Complete with body rolls and hip thrusts, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that “Body & Soul” was the crowd-pleaser of all crowd-pleasers that night.
Whether it was due to an overload of sexiness or the heat of the jam-packed theatre, fans began to faint and had to be lifted out of the pit. Fortunately, security and staff took action and began handing out water bottles to the crowd, helping B.A.P carry on with the show in a professional manner.
With several concerts now under their belt (thanks to their Live on Earth Pacific Tour and Japanese arena tour), B.A.P seemed more relaxed this time around, feeding off the crowd’s energy and becoming livelier with each performance. From playing around and pretending to fight each other during “Punch” to spraying water on the crowd during “Bang x2,” it was obvious that the boys enjoyed every minute of being onstage and interacting with their fans.
B.A.P managed to keep up the high energy level throughout the concert, especially with their “Hurricane” performance. Catering specifically to their New York fans, Yongguk pointed his mic at the crowd for “New York City” while Himchan did the same for his “the roof is on fire” verse. But the NYC love didn’t end there. During a talk break, Himchan asked, “Daehyun, what was your favorite part of the show?”, and Daehyun replied, “Seeing our New York Babyz again!” Jongup thanked the crowd for letting them return for a second concert: “Thanks to all of you, we’re here now again.”

Rounding off the main setlist, the boys concluded the show with their most recent title track “1004,”
followed by an encore set with their debut song “Warrior” and “With You.” B.A.P followed the theme of the concert until the very end, with the boys reminding fans of how the world needs all of them to make a difference. (“Let’s make the world better.” —Youngjae)

After wrapping up the U.S. leg of their tour in Los Angeles on April 22, the boys will head over to the U.K, France, Germany, Australia, Taiwan, Singapore, and Japan.
